Part of the reason I went with the 2012 model is the most recent Mac Mini has permanently soldered memory. I must warn you, however, that whenever refurbished Mac Minis appear on Apple's refurb page, they disappear quickly! You will need to check the page daily, perhaps more frequently, and the moment you see one show up that has specs that satisfy you, buy it. Search for "Apple refurbished" and go to your country's version of that page. I've bought two computers, and several peripheral devices, refurbished, from Apple and have been very pleased with them. I just bought a 2012 model Mac Mini refurb directly from Apple. Now, if you want to save some money and get a fairly recent Mac, a refurb directly from Apple is the way to go.
